Questions from a friend...

LASIK information? What is it? What does it really do? These are the questions my friend asked me as I suggested that she go see an eye doctor. You see, my friend has been wearing thick lens glasses since we've known each other during our college years. So, to answer her question, I explained everything I know or have researched to her. She understood everything I said. Then another set of questions were thrown at me - "How much is it?" "Is it painful?" "What will be the side-effects of this?" - and so on...

Wait, hold up! That is not my expertise. I couldn't answer all the questions she had for me. I just told her to go online and search all about Lasik procedure, just like what I did. I am confident to say that my friend is a possible candidate for LASIK laser vision correction. She is over 21, and has healthy corneas, as she mentioned. But there's more to it. It is really best that she sees an expert on this.

Ah! The wonders of modern technology. Because of advances in technology, most patients who wear glasses or contact lenses are looking into LASIK technology to cure whatever vision problems they have.

Coffeebreak ver 1.42

My best friend died a couple of years back. We have not seen each other for quite sometime as we were both busy with work and she already was married at that time. One fine Saturday morning, while fixing our garden, a white car passed by our house and honked it's horn. I looked back and saw the car park a few blocks away from our house. I didn't pay much attention to it because the car didn't look familiar to me and if it was a visitor, it should stop right in front of our house. I continued with what I was doing, not minding who it was when suddenly I started to hear my name being called. It was my best friend! I was so happy that she paid me a visit. Our conversation didn't last long, though. As I can still recall, it happened for just about a minute or two. She said she just happened to pass by and wanted to invite me to her place in the evening to drink. The usual inuman we had way back in high school and college. I said okay. Time to catch up with each other's lives, right? I took a nap after lunch, excited - Excited to go out drinking again and be with her at least for a night. As I woke up, I was in a rush to get ready and leave. The phone rang, a common friend on the other line. The bad news: I was informed that my best friend passed away two nights ago. I just couldn't believe it. I knew it was her I was talking to in the morning of that day. It wasn't a dream. It was for real. In the flesh! How could it be?

Tuesday's Tip Jar

Is your baby still crying from that recent vaccine shot? Try wetting a tea bag and place it over the site of the injection. Hold it gently in place until the crying stops. The tannic acid in the tea will soothe the soreness, You might try it on yourself the next time an injection leaves your arm sore.

Hotel 626

A new, interactive horror-filled game from Doritos has hit the web. Hotel 626. Play the game between 6pm and 6am. Not in front of your computer at those times? Then cheat away by changing your PC clocks! But, I wouldn't really advise you to do that. This game is best played alone (haha), with the lights out, and at night. Seriously, the game recommends you to turn on the webcam and microphone as some stages will be needing this.

I am wanting my voice back! I lost it while watching hubby play the game. The panic-stricken me shouted like there was no tomorrow. I really am not into anything that involves horror and suspense. I easily get frightened.

The story goes that you check-in into this weird and old hotel, and wake up in the middle of the night. You hear sounds, decide to go out and investigate. It is real-time action on the screen. The game features a morgue, a dark room, etc giving its players 3D views in darkness.

Warning : Not for the faint-hearted! To the makers of Hotel 626, hats off to you! Bravo!

The Cross in My Pocket

As I was cleaning up my bookshelves, I found an old journal where I write all poems, quotes, and prayers that I like and are meaningful to me. I wish to share The Cross in My Pocket to you all. Wonderful poem.

I have a cross in my pocket
As a simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be.

This little cross isn't magic
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm.

It's not for identification
For all the world to see
It's simply an understanding
Between my Saviour and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or key
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me to be thankful
For my Blessings day by day.
And to strive to serve Him better.
In all that I do or say.

It's also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master.
And give Themselves to His care.

So I carry a Cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my Life
If only I'll let Him be.

BFAD on Sunflower crackers

I love Sunflower crackers. We have a large can here at home. I munch on them whenever I feel the urge to chew on something. But what have I just read? BFAD eyes ban on Sunflower Crackers.

The Bureau of Food and Drugs on Monday said it is recommending a ban on Croley Foods Sunflower cream-filled crackers after Hong Kong health authorities found high traces of melamine in one of the Philippine-made products.

Pair of Specs...

Hubby has been experiencing headaches every now and then. Went to the doctor for a check up and thank heavens, everything's A-OKAY. I suggested that he have his eyes checked on too. He agreed that maybe it's time for him to change his pair of eyeglasses. He has been using them for a long time now. I was in search of an optical website on the internet to check on new and fashionable styles that would suit the shape of his face. I was also in the hunt for an affordable price. Luckily, I stumbled on Zenni Optical . Exactly what I was looking for. Stylish prescription glasses online and very affordable. I couldn't imagine a stylish pair of glasses for a very affordable price. They have a huge selection of single vision lens, sun sensor lens, tinted sunglasses lens, bifocal and progressive lenses. The secret to their low price is that they only sell our own manufactured frames direct to the customer. It is so within our budget so Hubby decided to go for this. In this great eyeglasses site, you may browse, find, compare, and order online for eye glasses and lenses. Another thing that made me interested here is that if you are dissatisfied with your eyeglasses for any reason, you may return it for a 50% refund within a period of four weeks and they accept orders internationally. And because of its affordability, The Chicago Tribune has featured this in their Spending Smart column.

Moleskine... Be Mine !

Avalon.ph and The Wifey Steps have teamed up for a Bloghopping Moleskine Giveaway. It kicks off at Toni's blog first and will continue from blog to blog. Moleskine lovers, now is the time to join. The question:

What would I write? There are a lot of things I have in mind - chronological account of my daily activities, my thoughts, feelings, desires, and dreams. Being a list-freak, it would surely include my To-Do List, grocery list, book list, and whatever list have you. I would also write about the things that I am grateful for. I remember watching an episode from the Oprah Winfrey Show where she mentioned that all of us should have a thank you or gratitude notebook. It would be great start writing that on a Moleskine notebook. It would also be a journal that should make me answer these questions : What can I or what have I learned from my entry? And, how can I use it to improve my life?

I would also write about our (Hubby & I)goals. We have started it the very next day since we tied the knot. We have a 5 year goal, 3 years, 2, 1, a monthly, and a weekly in which we cross out each goal as we achieve it. Great!

In other words, whatever it is written in my Moleskine would reflect who I am, no pretensions, whatsoever. It is a fact that Moleskine lasts longer than the normal notebooks or journals around. After a few years, looking back at what I've written down, I'd be happy to say "I'm glad I had it written down on my Moleskine!"

Save Electricity!

(sorry for the blurred pic)
I arrived home today and saw the electric bill posted on the "Bills to pay" door. I was expecting a bill amounting to 4K or 5K the most. 5K the most because we have been using the a/c every night due to the very humid weather. Two rooms with 2 a/c working for almost 3 hours every night. Thank heavens, Manang does not complain using just an electric fan in her room. I'd be surprised if she did! LOL! Add two desktop computers, and 1 laptop to that. Both desktop computers are up most of the time. Hubby works on his web designs, and sis-in-law on her graphics design. Younger sis-in-law, or Bunso, as we call her, uses her laptop only when she gets home from work. Me? I just won the laptop, right? So, let us just wait for next month's bill. @#%!!#^

We came up with a plan to save on electricity. It's like hitting 2 birds with one stone - we save on electricity and we get to bond. Why? Because Hubby and I have decided to spend the night in the living room. Yes, the living room. That would mean, only 1 a/c running, no electric fans turned on, and only 2 laptops working. Haha! As of present time, we are all here in the living room busy doing something. Manang is now sleeping in one corner, 2 sis-in-laws busy watching a movie, and Hubby is stuck to his PSP. We plan to do this once or twice a week. Let's just see.

I'm calling it a night now. Lights out.... good night!

Just like Jan, whenever there is a get-together, it really is impossible not to talk about the past. Memories, as they say, live forever. Funny, sad, or mushy, we all get to talk about it when we all see each other. We also get to talk about the "Who's who?" and "Who dunnit?" game. Try it...

Level Up! is ❤❤❤

Hubby and I attended the Level Up! Live event yesterday. We do this every year along with my brother, sis-in-law, and some friends. As usual, we had a lot of fun watching the games, and I had a whole lot of fun with the freebies I got.

The event yesterday will be a truly memorable one for us. Why ? The raffle's grand prize winner is Hubby! We won a LAPTOP. Yes, you read it right. A laptop! Wuhoo! OMG! We were literally shaking as the name was called. I thought that I would be needing a medical assistant at that time. Hubby had the privelege to go on stage to accept the prize. I managed to only take pictures from the screens positioned all over the place. I am now a proud owner of the laptop.

Big, big THANKS to THE ONE up there for all the blessings, to the Level Up! Live community, and to the staff of NEO computers for the laptop!

Can't wait for next years' event! Congratulations to the winners, too! Level Up! is ❤❤❤

I want to be one...

During my younger years, I wanted to be a doctor. At that time, it's either you want to be a doctor, a nurse, or a teacher. Time passed by, I never became a doctor. Not even took a course close to it. Now, I want to be a medical assistant. Why? Because medical assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. Their duties vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. They also perform many administrative duties, including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping. And that's what I love about it.

There are medical assistant schools now that offer this program. These schools are accredited, affordable and accessible certificate program for Medical Assistants. Is it time for me to change careers?

My Husband - The GAMER

gam·er : /ˈgeɪmÉ™r/ –noun

- a person who plays games.
- one who plays a game, especially a role-playing or computer game
- a devoted player of electronic games, especially on machines especially designed for such games and, in a more recent trend, over the Internet

My hubby is a gamer. He has been into gaming since the Counter Strike days. Name any online game you know of, he has played it. I am one, too. Though not as passionate as he is. This is his form of relaxation.

Way before we tied the knot, we have talked about this. I truly understand. He has his own space, his own "me/my time", and I have mine too. When things go out of hand, I talk to him. He understands. You may think that I am complaining. No, I'm not. He hasn't been neglecting his duties here at home and duties as a husband. He only plays when I have something important to do and I request not be bothered (hehe), or when we just want to bum around on a lazy weekend. He also does play when a new game is introduced for him to try out.

Lately, I noticed he has not been playing often. I thought that he had mellowed down from playing his games. I stand corrected. He is now addicted to his PSP and has been playing even when he needs to go to the bathroom. Arrgh! Am I complaining? Yes. Because I couldn't get to play the game I have installed there. Haha! I consider myself lucky somehow as I get to use the computer all the time these days while he is attached to his PSP.But I also want to use the PSP and play! I want to finish the games I have there. He is almost done playing the Valkyrie Profiles and has downloaded another game - Brave Story: New Traveler. I was curious why he was so giddy with excitement and anticipation when he installed the game. He just said "Just wait and see." Okay!

As I continue to surf the net and blog-hop, he has been trying to start the new game. I can hear him chuckling like a kid. I wonder why. I suddenly noticed that he was taking pictures of the game and now he was laughing - laughing hard! After a few minutes, he showed me the photos and said, "Just like you and me, Bheiby!" I wondered what he meant, still he continued laughing. The pictures below will explain why...

After seeing all these photos, we both shared a good laugh. Sounded just like me and him. Too familiar when we are fighting over the psp ... Haha!

The Mystery of the Missing Remote Control

For two days now, Hubby and I have been watching from our bedroom tv using a long wooden stick to surf channels. Why? We couldn't find our newly-bought universal remote control. I even had the nerve to blurt out, "It's fairly cheap. No worries, we could buy another one this weekend!"

You see, the tv is Hubby's bedtime pal way after we have talked about each others day, etc. While I put myself to sleep reading a book or magazine, he then turns in to his reliable pal to lull him to sleep. His favorite sleep-time channel - The Animal Planet. I have checked and cleaned every nook and cranny of our room. Still couldn't find it. It must be here (as I am in the bedroom now). That little thing couldn't get out of this room!

Last night, as I went to visit my brother and sis-in-law (who happens to live in this village, too), I told them the mystery behind the missing remote control. My brother said that the little spirits could be playing again with me/us. Hide-and-seek the items, eh. Yes. There are little spirits here at home who are really very playful. That is a different story. I'll post it come Halloween.

Going back to the missing remote control... I wanted to believe what my brother has just said until I found this....

Yes! It is inside my bag. The bag that I used two days ago. This isn't the first time it happened. One time at the office, I was reaching for my ringing mobile phone. And your guess is as good as mine. I happened to reach for the DVD remote control that time. My officemates even saw it.

The Mystery of the Missing Remote Control is now SOLVED!

Thursday Challenge

Today's Challenge : "AUTUMN" (Leaves, Harvest, Farm's Market, Migrating Birds and Animals, Rainy Season,...)

On my way home on a very rainy and stormy day...
