Mrs. Aquino will forever be remembered. She has courageously stood for her husband, her family, and the nation. I am watching Pres. Aquino's funeral convoy now, and memories from 1983-1986 flashed back. I can proudly say that I have been a part of that very memorable event as I helped papa and his colleagues shred yellow paper. While helping and playing with confetti that time, I asked Papa what the confetti is for? Why is there a parade? Why are there so many people? I can't exactly remember what the answers were, but what stuck to my mind up to this time are the names Ninoy and Cory Aquino. I was around 10 yrs old then and I believe that because of what I saw and learned, I started to love watching the news on tv, or reading the newspaper.
As of this writing, the funeral convoy is now passing by Ayala Ave. The camera pans now to the Makati Exchange bldg. This is the very building where I have witnessed people parade along the long stretch of this avenue from the 4th floor of my papa's office window while showering the people with confetti and waving the Laban sign. Seeing this on tv, I feel like it's 1983/1986 all over again. In my own little way, as I am seeing the casket from the flat-bed truck, I pay my last respects, and clap til my hands hurt. Though alone in this room, I gave her a standing ovation. Pres. Aquino deserves it. She truly does.
